Kay Ullrich (* in Prestwick ) is a Scottish politician and a member of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

Life

Ullrich attended the Ayr Academy and Queen's College in Glasgow . She then worked as a social worker.

Political career

In 1965 Ullrich joined the SNP. She later became deputy party leader and party spokeswoman for health and social affairs. It first appeared in the British general election in 1983 for national elections. In her constituency of Cunninghame South , however, she received only around 6.9% of the vote and thus clearly missed the mandate for the British House of Commons . In the general election in 1987 in Cunninghame South and in 1992 in Motherwell South , she was able to increase her share of the vote, but did not win the direct mandate. After the death of Labor MP John Smith in 1994, new elections were due in the constituency of Monklands East , to which Ullrich ran. Although she was able to significantly increase the SNP's share of the vote, she was defeated by Labor candidate Helen Liddell .

In the first Scottish parliamentary elections in 1999, Ullrich applied for the direct mandate of the constituency of Cunninghame North , but was clearly defeated by the Labor candidate Allan Wilson and thus missed the direct mandate of the constituency. Since Ullrich was also on the top ranks of the regional electoral list of the SNP for the electoral region West of Scotland , she received one of four list mandates for the SNP in this electoral region and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament . Campbell did not run for the next general election in 2003 and left parliament at the end of the legislature.
