Kazimierz Brodziński ([ bro'dzjinjski ]; born March 8, 1791 in Królówka , Lesser Poland ; † October 10, 1835 in Dresden ) was a Polish poet and translator .

Life

Kazimierz Brodziński is considered a forerunner of Polish Romanticism . His work was under the influence of Johann Gottfried Herder . In Poland, which was then politically linked to Lithuania , the folklore collector Kazimierz Brodziński had already published Polish versions of Lithuanian folk songs from Herder's collection in 1820 ; in the end he was even called the “Polish Herder” . He translated Goethe into the Polish language . In 1820 his peasant epic “Wiesław” was written .

Brodziński found his final resting place in a double burial place with his compatriot General Stanisław von Skarbek-Woyczyński , who also lived in exile in Saxony, at the Old Catholic Cemetery in Dresden.
