Kazimierz Nowak (born January 11, 1897 in Stryj ; † October 13, 1937 in Poznań (Posen) ) was a Polish globetrotter, photographer and correspondent. After the First World War he lived in Poznań.

From 1931 to 1936 he wandered through Africa from north to south on foot or by bike, covering a total of 40,000 km. He wrote letters and took many photos, in which he described in detail the African culture and showed the mentality, religion and nature. After returning home, he gave numerous lectures on Africa.

Books

Thanks to his daughter Elżbieta Nowak-Gliszewska and Łukasz Wierzbicki, two books have been published about the journey: Przez Czarny Ląd (Through the Black Land) and Rowerem i pieszo przez Czarny Ląd (By bike and on foot through the Black Land).

The second book was also recommended by Ryszard Kapuściński as a classic Polish report.
