Kazutake Kōra ( Japanese 高 良 和 武 , Kōra Kazutake ; own Romanization: Kazutake Kohra ; born September 1, 1921 in Kagoshima ; died January 30, 2019 ) was a Japanese natural scientist and later also a science organizer.

Live and act

Kazutake Kōra graduated from Kyūshū University in 1948 . In 1957 he moved to the University of Tōkyō .

Teaching

Chair of Crystallography in the Department of Applied Physics, Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo. 1986 Farewell as "Meijo Kyōju"

Kōra planned, inspired by the developments in Europe, a powerful photon generator, met resistance from colleagues who were opposed to such large-scale projects, who questioned their real use as a joint research facility. He visited the Ministry of Culture more than 40 times to explain and implement his plan. In April 1978 construction could finally begin. Kōra was then founding director of the "Photon Factory" at KEK in the science city of Tsukuba , where the first experiments could be carried out in March 1980.

further activities

When Kōra came to the science city of Tsukuba, which was built on the green field, in the early 1970s and set up and managed the Photon Factory, he began to take care of the education of the local population. He was involved in founding a university of applied sciences, which then started work as the "Tsukuba College of Technology" (筑波 技術 短期 大学, Tsukuba gijutsu tanki dagaku) in 1990 and which became the "Tsukuba University of Technology" (筑波 技術 大学, Tsukuba gijutsu daigaku) has been upgraded.

As an example of Kōra's broad interest, his lecture entitled "Situation of 'Human Potential Science' and Its Societies" should be mentioned, with which he initiated a session at the 16th Symposium of the International Society of Life Information Science (ISLIS) in Osaka.

Kōra and Germany

From September 1955 to December 1957, Kōra worked as a visiting researcher research stay at the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in West Berlin. Based on the experience gained during this time, Kōra last addressed his colleagues in 1997 in the introductory article in a volume in the journal “Notes on Basic Research” with the advice to - as usual in Germany - take more time for basic research and not immediately to concentrate on working on very specific topics. In the 1970s, Kōra stayed at the invitation of Renninger as a visiting professor at the Crystallographic Institute of the University of Marburg . In the 1990s, Kōra was once again in Germany, this time at the invitation of a conference in the Magnus House in Berlin.
