Kazuya Maruyama ( Japanese 丸山 和 也 , Maruyama Kazuya ; born January 23, 1946 in Shingū , Ibo County (today: Tatsuno ), Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician and a member of the Council House , the upper house of the national parliament , on the national proportional representation the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

Maruyama graduated from the Faculty of Law at Waseda Daigaku in 1969 and worked from 1970 to 1971 in the Department of Immigration ( nyūkoku-kanri-kyoku ) of the Ministry of Justice . After completing the "Judicial Training School" ( Shihō Kenshūjo ) of the Supreme Court , he registered in 1973 as a lawyer. From 1975 to 1980 he was in the United States, where he received a Master of Laws from the University of Washington and worked in a law firm in Los Angeles. After returning to Japan in 1980, he continued to work as a lawyer, focusing on international legal matters on behalf of companies.

Maruyama first tried to switch to national politics in the Sangiin election in 1989 , when he ran for the unsuccessful proportional representation of the Shinsei Club . He later also appeared as a commentator on news programs and on show programs on television. In the Sangiin election in 2007 he ran for the LDP in the proportional representation, received 272,347,455 votes nationwide and was thus elected to fourth place on the list. In the Sangiin he was a member of the judicial and accounting committees.

For the early gubernatorial election in Osaka prefecture after the resignation of Tōru Hashimoto , the LDP prefectural association asked Maruyama in October 2011 for a candidacy. After he initially rejected it and the LDP Ōsaka had already agreed with the Democratic Party and Kōmeitō to support Kaoru Kurata as a common opponent against Ichirō Matsui , supported by Hashimoto's Ōsaka Ishin no Kai , Maruyama declared his candidacy just under two weeks before the start of the election period , but withdrew it a few days later.

In 2012, Maruyama took over the chairmanship of the Sangiin Culture and Science Committee. In the 2013 Sangiin election , he received 153,303 votes, reaching 14th place on the LDP list, which was enough for re-election as the LDP won 18 proportional representation.
