The Keele Peak , in the northeast part of the territory Yukon near the border with the Northwest Territories situated is, with 2972 meters the highest peak in the Mackenzie Mountains . It is located southeast of the Hess River , a tributary of the Stewart River , and about 25 km northwest of Canol Road . The Keele Peak is a solitary massif, surrounded by valleys with low trees, with glaciers that extend from the top in all directions and cover an area of about 100 km².
The summit was named after the Irish-born Joseph Keele (1863-1923), a researcher and geologist. Keele made a significant contribution to the cartography of the Yukon gold fields .
