Charles Keenja

Charles Ndiliana Ruwa Keenja (born December 24, 1940 ) is a Tanzanian politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), who was Minister of Agriculture and Food Security between 2000 and 2005.

Life

Keenja is a member of the CCM ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ) Revolutionary Party and, as Principal Secretary, was the senior official of the Ministry of Local Government and Cooperative Development. After that he was from July 5, 1996 to January 31, 2000 chairman of the city commission of Dar es Salaam and thus de facto mayor . For his services to the development of the city, he was awarded an honorary award by the United Nations Program for Human Settlements UN - HABITAT (UN-Habitat Scroll of Honor Award) in 2000 .

In 2000 he became Minister of Agriculture and Food Security in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Frederick Sumaye and held this office until the end of Sumaye's term on December 30, 2005, when Joseph Mungai succeeded him in January 2006. As Minister of Agriculture, he was also Tanzania's delegate to the Rome- based Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). On October 29, 2000 he was elected as a candidate of the CCM for the first time as a member of the National Assembly, in which he represented the constituency Ubungo until October 30, 2010 . While in parliament he was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.
