Kei Kecil ( Kai Kecil, Kai Ketjil, Klein or Low Kei , local: Nuhu Roa ) is an island of the Kei Islands in the Moluccas archipelago . The name probably comes from the Portuguese , who were the first to take possession of this island. Since the island is very stony and the Portuguese word kayos means something like "stone" or "rock", this derivation is closest. In contrast to other Molucca Islands, the island is flat, only two smaller elevations are the exception. The island is best known for its extraordinary beaches and beautiful coral reefs .

geography

Kei Kecil is one of the three large of the Kei Islands and is located in the east of the archipelago. To the east are the islands of Kei Dullah and Kei Besar . Numerous smaller islands to the west and north. Kei Kecil belongs to the administrative district ( Kabupaten ) Maluku Tenggara of the Maluku Province .

The north of the island forms the district (Kecamatan) Kei Kecil with the island's capital Langgur and the airport of the archipelago. Kei Kecil Barat is the sub-district in the southwest of Kei Kecil. The main town of the sub- district is Ohoira . The Kei Kecil Timur subdistrict with the main town Rumat ( Rummat ) forms the southeast of Kei Kecil .

In contrast to most of the other islands in the archipelago, Kei Kecil is flat and largely deforested.
