Keiji Inafune ( Japanese 稲 船 敬 二 , Inafune Keiji ; * May 8, 1965 ) is a Japanese game developer . He worked at Capcom Production Studio 2 and is considered the creator of the Mega-Man and Onimusha video game series.

biography

Keiji Inafune graduated from college in 1987. He was then hired by the Japanese game developer Capcom as the designer for the first part of the popular Street Fighter series . The developers then hired him for another project. Inafune was now responsible for the figure design and the instructions for use of the Mega Man series (known as "Rockman" in Japan). Mega Man was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in Japan in 1987 .

In the years that followed, Keiji Inafune (often abbreviated to "Inafking" in the credits) was involved in other Mega Man games. In 1993 he was responsible for the character design of Breath of Fire. Keiji Inafune and Yoshinori Kawano were responsible for the "game concept" of the action game The Misadventures of Tron Bonne . On January 25, 2001, the action adventure Onimusha: Warlords was released for the PlayStation 2 . The game was influenced by the ideas of Keiji Inafune and became a successful representative of its genre.

Capcom has signed him again for the third installment in the Onimusha franchise, Onimusha 3: Demon Siege . Inafune was in 2004 executive producer of the beat 'em ups Capcom Fighting Evolution , which was released for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox .

On April 2, 2005, Keiji Inafune was named Capcom's chief officer to senior chief officer. At the subsidiary Capcom Production Studio 2 he was responsible for the development of two Xbox 360 games. Dead Rising is an action game that was released in Europe in September 2006. The game principle shows some parallels to the horror film Zombie ( Dawn of the Dead ) from 1978.

The action game Lost Planet: Extreme Condition was produced by Inafune and was released for the Xbox 360 in 2007. In an interview with the game magazine Game Informer , he mentioned that this game is based on films such as Das Ding aus Another Welt or Starship Troopers . On October 29, 2010, Inafune announced that he was leaving Capcom after 23 years.
