Keisos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Keisos ( Greek  Κεῖσος ) was in Greek mythology the son of Temenos , king of Argos , and the brother of Hyrnetho . He was the father of Medon , Marron and Phlias .

When his father Temenos appointed Deiphontes , the husband of the Hyrnetho, as the supreme military leader, he feared that Deiphontes might subsequently also become king of Argos, killed his father and drove Hyrnetho and her husband away. Now he ascended the throne. Keisos and his brothers tried to divide Hyrnetho and Deiphontes. Failing to do so, they kidnapped Hyrnetho and Deiphontes pursued them. Here Hyrnetho was killed.

According to Strabo , Keisos is said to have re-founded Argos. After his death, Medon, his son, became king.
