Deiphontes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Deiphontes ( Greek  Δηιφόντης ) is the son of Heraclid Antimachos and great-grandson of Heracles in Greek mythology .

Deiphontes married the Hyrnetho , daughter of Temenos , and helped him to establish the throne of the Temenids in Argos . Temenos preferred to appoint one of his sons Deiphontes as his successor, which is why Temenos was murdered by his sons. The sons were driven away by the Argives (inhabitants of Argos).

According to another story, Temenos eldest son Keisos came to rule in Argos, while Deiphontes lived with Hyrnetho in Epidaurus , where he had to endure hostilities from his brothers-in-law. When two of his brothers-in-law had kidnapped their sister by force and Deiphontes was pursuing her, Hyrnetho was killed in a scuffle by her brother Phalkes . The fate of the woman was the subject of the tragedy Temenos of Euripides .
