Keith Johnson

Keith Johnson (* 1942) is a jazz , blues and rock musician who was best known as a trumpeter and later pianist for the Butterfield Blues Band .

Life

Johnson made a name for himself as a trumpeter in the jazz scene as early as the first half of the 1960s. In 1967 he became a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band (BBB) ​​and performed with them at a pop festival in Monterey in June of that year . This style of music of the band differed from his previous recordings ( Chicago Blues and Raga Blues). Before 1969 he mainly played the trumpet, but after that he switched to piano and Steve Medaio took over most of the trumpet parts. With the BBB he recorded a total of three albums until he left the band in 1970. After that he was briefly a member of Elephant's Memory and worked as a studio musician, among others for Van Morrison , Etta James , Moogy Klingman and for his wife Martha Veléz . He and Martha Veléz have a son, Taj Jonsson.
