Keith Mullings (born August 1, 1968 in Jamaica ) is a former American professional boxer and former world champion of the WBC in the light middleweight division.

Boxing career

His greatest success as an amateur was winning a bronze medal in the light middleweight division at the 1992 World Military Championships in Denmark . In the US Olympic qualification of the same year, he lost in the quarterfinals to Lonnie Bradley .

On July 24, 1993 he played his first professional fight. After 17 fights, including 13 wins, three losses and one draw, he won unanimously on points against Donald Stokes in July 1997 (record: 39 wins - 1 loss). Then he went on September 13, 1997 to fight for the world championship of the IBF against Raúl Márquez (27-0), but lost the encounter with a 2-1 judge decision on points.

Due to his performance, however, he was already in his next fight on December 6, 1997 in Atlantic City a fight for the World Championship of the WBC against Terry Norris (47-6), the Mullings decide by knockout in the ninth round for themselves could. Norris also lost around 4.5 million US dollars on the stock exchange from an already negotiated fight against Óscar de la Hoya , which had been promised to him for a win against Mullings. On March 14, 1998 Mullings defended the world title through an injury-related abandonment victory in the fifth round against European champion Davide Ciarlante (23-0).

In his second title defense on January 29, 1999 in Spain , he lost again just on points against Javier Castillejo (43-4). But this time he was offered another World Cup chance in his next fight; he boxed it on August 28, 1999 in Las Vegas against David Reid (19-0) for the World Championship of the WBA , but had to admit defeat on points unanimously. Another loss of points in December 2000 against Ronald Wright (40-3) and a knockout loss in April 2001 against the Englishman Steve Roberts (23-0), finally ended his boxing career.
