Katakömbli basement theater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Katakömbli basement theater is a theater at Kramgasse 25 in the old town of Bern . It has been part of Bern's cabaret scene since the 1960s and stages plays, music, films and other cabaret performances from the beginning of October to mid-May.

The "Katakömbli", founded in 1962, was the in-house theater of the Bärner Rohrspatze cabaret in the 1970s . Since its dissolution in 1984, the theater has not been home to a permanent ensemble. In 1991 the "Cooperative Cellar Theater Katakömbli" was founded.

The small theater is housed in a typical old town cellar vault and offers space for up to 55 spectators. It is operated without government subsidies and not for profit. It is supported by a development association and voluntary work by the members of the cooperative.
