Kelley Barracks

The Kelley Barracks are a military base of the US armed forces in Stuttgart . They are located seven kilometers south of the city center between the districts of Möhringen and Plieningen .

The facility goes back to the Helenen barracks of the Wehrmacht , built in 1938 , which was taken over by the US occupation forces after the Second World War and renamed Kelley Barracks. It is named after Jonah E. Kelley , a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his achievements in World War II .

On the premises of the Kelley Barracks are u. a. a theater , restaurants and a hotel .

The headquarters of the VII US Corps was located here until 1992, and the headquarters of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) has been located here since autumn 2007 .
