Patch barracks
The Patch Barracks are a troop base of the US Army in Stuttgart-Vaihingen . They house the following facilities:
- NSA / CSS Representative Europe office (NCEUR), the headquarters of the NSA in Europe.
- US European Command (EUCOM), the headquarters of the US armed forces in Europe.
- Special Operations Command Europe (SOCEUR), which leads all US military special forces in Europe.
history
The Patch Barracks, which were called Kurmärker Kaserne until 1967 , were built from 1936 to 1938 for the 7th Panzer Regiment of the Wehrmacht . After the Second World War , the US occupation forces took over the site. The base is named after Alexander M. Patch , the first commander of the Americal Division and the 7th US Army .
A 96 meter high directional radio tower, which made the Patch Barracks visible from afar, was demolished in spring 2009. There is also a precast concrete radio mast on the site.
