The Kellerwaldbahn is a former railway line in Northern Hesse between Zimmerrode on the Main-Weser Railway and Gemünden (Wohra) with a connection to the Wohratalbahn to Kirchhain .

course

The route had a length of 24.38 km. It followed the valley of the Gilsa in the southern Kellerwald via Jesberg to Gilserberg , from there crossed the Rhine-Weser watershed and reached the valley of the Wohra in Gemünden .

history

The line started operating on October 2, 1911. An extension to Frankenberg (Eder) was planned, but this was no longer realized because of the First World War . On May 28, 1972, passenger traffic on the entire route and goods traffic on the section between Zimmerrode and Gilserberg were suspended. On November 30, 1981, freight traffic also ended on the remaining Gilserberg-Gemünden line and two weeks later on the subsequent Wohratalbahn. The line was dismantled shortly afterwards.
