Kelley Blue Book ( KBB for short ) is an American vehicle valuation and automotive research company based in Irvine , California . Officially recognized by both consumers and the automotive industry , the company is part of the media company Cox Enterprises , which is headquartered in Atlanta , Georgia .

history

In 1918, Les Kelley founded the Kelley Kar Company , which he ran with his younger brother Buster Kelley. In 1926, this company published a vehicle driver based on vehicle data collected from various dealerships , which was used in the automobile trade to determine the vehicle value . In the same year, today's Kelley Blue Book was founded and operated by the Kelley family until the 1960s.

Subsequently, Kelley Blue Book was bought by a specialist publisher , which has published an annual price list with all current vehicles on the market since then. In 2010, Kelley Blue Book was bought by the vehicle sales portal AutoTrader.com .

The Kelley Blue Book reports on market prices for current and used automobiles and motorcycles . Furthermore, the Kelley Blue Book calculates “fair” vehicle prices based on actual transactions . In the case of used cars, Kelley Blue Book determines the commercial value, used value, the trade-in value of the vehicle in question and the so-called private party value of the car. In addition, Kelley Blue Book carries out its own car tests, which are uploaded to the corresponding KBB YouTube channel, among other things.

The Kelley Blue Book is officially recognized by both consumers and the automotive industry. Between 2012 and 2014, Kelley Blue Book was named Auto Shopping Platform of the Year by Harris Insights & Analytics . Kelley Blue Book also won two web awards in a row .
