Kelly Petillo

Cavino Michele "Kelly" Petillo (born December 15, 1903 in Philadelphia , † June 30, 1970 in Los Angeles ) was an American racing car driver .

Career

Kelly Petillo took part in the Indianapolis 500 ten times and won this race in 1935. This was also the first victory for an Offenhauser engine. With two more victories that year, he also won the AAA National Championship .

In 1937 Petillo took part in the Vanderbilt Cup , but dropped out due to engine problems. During the rest of his life he had various problems and also spent some time in prison. In 1970 he died of emphysema .
