Kenneth "Ken" Monkou (born November 29, 1964 in Nickerie ) is a former Dutch football player with roots in Suriname .
life and career
The native South American came to Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1985 , from where the central defender moved to Chelsea in England after 43 games and two goals in 1989 . The transfer fee for Monkou was the equivalent of around € 147,000. He was the first black player to be voted Chelsea Player of the Year. After Monkou, only three black players have so far made it. In 1992 he moved within England to Southampton FC for the equivalent of around € 1.1 million. After seven relatively unsuccessful years in Southampton , he let his career with Huddersfield Town end from 1999 to 2000 .
