Kennedy Nketani (born December 25, 1984 in Lusaka ) is a Zambian football player . The central defender is under contract with Zanaco FC and was active in the Zambian national team from 2005 to 2008 .

Club career

Nketani moved from third division Makumbi Stars to City of Lusaka FC , where he moved into the regular formation after just a few months. In early 2003, at the age of 19, he moved to Zanaco FC and immediately won the championship title there in his first season. In the following season he won the Zambian Coca Cola Cup with Zanaco , while they lost in the final of the BP Top 8 Cup league competitor Red Arrows FC . In 2006 he won this title after defeating the Nchanga Rangers . In 2005, 2006 and 2009 three more championship wins followed.

National team career

In 2005, Nketani played in the Zambian national team for the first time in the World Cup qualifier against Togo . For the 1: 4 defeat he was identified as the main culprit together with goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje . But unlike Kakonje, his career in the national dress suffered no setback, but he established himself as a regular at the side of Elijah Tana and thus prevailed against rivals Billy Mwanza and Sashi Chalwe .

Between 2005 and 2007 he was in three consecutive finals of the COSAFA Cup . The victory in 2006 is next to the success in the same year in the CECAFA Cup the biggest success for Nketani in the national team to date. In 2006 he was appointed to the squad for the African Championship and stood alongside Tana in all three group matches for the full duration of the game. At the African Cup of Nations in 2008 he was again in Zambia's squad, but was replaced by Hijani Himoonde before half-time after a mistake in the game against Cameroon and was no longer used in the last group game.
