Kennox House , formerly probably Crevock House , is a manor house near the Scottish town of Stewarton in the East Ayrshire council area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Around 1720, the oldest parts of the mansion were probably built for Colonel MacAlister , the owner of the land at the time. In the following centuries the building was expanded and revised several times. The earliest date on the building is 1762, which is why there is a possibility that the original building was partially or completely demolished during the expansion at that time. On a map from 1775 the mansion is referred to as Crevock House ; today's name Kennox House appears for the first time in 1832. A smaller extension on the east side seems to have been made in 1831, as can be seen from a stone with the corresponding date. For the added in 1911, the architect bathroom features James Morris from Ayr responsible.

description

The two-story building is isolated on extensive grounds around three kilometers southwest of Stewarton on the west bank of Glazert Burn . It has a T-shaped floor plan. The south-facing front is symmetrical and has three axes. The masonry is made of quarry stone while the building openings are set off with ashlar stones. The two-winged entrance portal is accessible via a front staircase with a decorated, cast-iron railing. A gable crowns the door, which is supported by two Corinthian blind pillars .

The rear wing, extending to the north, is six axes wide with a central, slightly protruding cross roof. On the opposite east side, however, there is a wing two axes wider. The building section closes at the north end as a single storey with a glass dome that was added later. The gable roofs are covered with gray slate.
