Centaur and Nymph (Begas)
Centaur and Nymph is a bronze sculpture created around 1888 by the German sculptor Reinhold Begas , which was installed in 1997 in the Kolonnadenhof in front of the entrance to the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin .
description
The motif shows a nymph sitting on a centaur . It is a two-figure, free-standing group of sculptures that is worked as a round sculpture and stands on a plinth . It was based on a design from 1881 and measures 180 × 65.8 × 41 cm. It is assigned to the style of the new or founder baroque .
A cast mark on the back names the Actiengesellschaft formerly H. Gladenbeck u. Son Berlin-Friedrichshagen .
Other versions
Another bronze version was originally located in front of the Dessau City Palace and was re-erected in the Dessau City Park in 1955 .
An enlarged marble copy was placed in the center of the Berlin Zoological Garden around 1900 .
