Psychos in Love is an American horror - comedy of Gorman Bechard from since 1987.

action

Joe is a bartender in a striptease bar. In his spare time he kills women. One day he meets the beautician Kate. Not only do the two share an aversion to grapes of all kinds, but Kate is also a serial killer . The two fall in love, but have a kind of open relationship in the sense that everyone can commit their own murders. They only kill once together.

Over time, the liking for murder fades and the two decide to get married. On their honeymoon they kill a prostitute together, but afterwards they decide to put the murders on hold for now. Instead, they become video store nerds and mainly watch horror series like Friday the 13th and Halloween .

When their drain is clogged, they call a plumber who discovers that it was their victims' body parts that clogged the drain. But that doesn't bother the plumber. He's also a serial killer and a cannibal too . And so he tries to blackmail them both. They should leave the bodies of their victims to him. However, when he mentions a grape sauce, all three freak out. The light is extinguished. When it comes back on, Joe is lying on the floor covered in blood. But it's not his blood, the film crew squirts blood from a hose.

The film ends with a new stripper hired in the bar.

background

In the film itself, the fourth wall is broken through several times . Joe and Kate turn to the audience several times and in the finale you can also see the film team at work. There are also numerous allusions to other slasher films . The shower murder from Psycho is imitated 1: 1 in color. There are other allusions to Groucho Marx , works by Roger Corman and Woody Allen .

The film was released in Germany by the X-Cess label and cmv-Laservision on DVD as part 3 of their trash collection. Since there was no German dubbed version, the film was left in the original sound and only subtitled. The picture quality of the release of this low budget film is rather poor. It was probably a dirty master tape.

Reviews

Matthias Paul from Wicked Vision had a rather positive review of the film. “It doesn't get really gory, but" Blood Feast "approaches (cardboard limbs) and blood pump inserts require an understanding of freaky films. I really liked the bitter angry humor, the shrill basic idea, the music that was completely off track and ultimately the implementation, which is trapped in the depths of the no budget film, but what conjures up interesting things from it. "

The film service described the film as a "[s] black thriller comedy from the in-house workshop of a comic artist, which manages the nasty story rather clumsily and probably only appeals to die-hard trash fans."
