Coordinates: 41 ° 23 ′  S , 146 ° 19 ′  E The Kentish Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 1187 km² and has about 6100 inhabitants (2016).

Kentish is located in the central north of the Tasmanian island about 190 kilometers northwest of the capital Hobart . The area comprises 26 hamlets and towns: Barrington, Lower Barrington, Beulah, Lower Betilah, Cethana, Claude Road, Cowrie Park, Cradle Mountain, Erriba, West Kentish, Lake Barrington, Lorinna, Merseylea, Middlesex, Moina, Nook, Paradise, Promised Country, Railton, Roland, Sheffield, Staverton, Stoodley, Sunnyside, Wilmot and Lower Wilmot. The seat of the council is in Sheffield in the northeast half of the LGA, where about 1100 inhabitants live (2016).

The Kentish Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Kentish is not divided into districts.
