Exterior

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is a compact, well-muscled horse. It shouldn't be too heavy bones and show medium substance. The back line is strong and the croup is round. Forequarters, body and hindquarters should be almost the same in proportion to each other. The shoulder and upper arm are well angled. The head and face should be attractive and appealing. The tail should of course be attached. All colors are allowed. The horses have a solid body color and can have the usual facial drawings (not a completely white face) and leg drawings (no or minimal white marking above the knee or metatarsus). The required height for class A is at least 144 cm, in class B between 112 and 143 cm. Manipulation of the hooves is not allowed, only hooves with normal shoeing are allowed.

interior

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is willing to work and has a calm temperament. It is very friendly, extremely person-centered and has strong nerves.

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse is a very versatile horse. Because of its calm temperament, it has always been used by the whole family - as a draft horse in the field, as a riding horse for children and a carriage horse. Due to its very comfortable sitting gait , it is ideal as a riding horse for back-damaged and older riders. It can also be used in western riding (developed from work riding ). Due to its descent from mountain horses, it is a sure-footed all-terrain horse and is therefore suitable as a trail riding horse.

Gaits

  • Trail Walk : clear, even four-stroke step with 3 and 2-leg supports, walking speed
  • Show Gait : Rack at a faster pace than Trail Walk, 3.2 km / h to 8 km / h, 2- and 1-leg supports
  • Pleasure Gait:: Even faster rack than the Show Gait, clearer and more even four-stroke with 2- and 1-leg supports at high speed (8 km / h and faster)
  • Canter : also rocking chair gallop , slow and collected, clearly accentuated

Other gaits can occur individually, but are not desired at tournaments. Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horses (like all Mountain Horses) never tölt (even if the rack shows the same step picture).
