Cepheus (Aithiopia)
Cepheus ( Greek Κηφεύς "gardener", Latin Cepheus ) is a figure of Greek mythology . As the Ethiopian king he was consort of Cassiopeia and father of Andromeda .
After Cassiopeia had boasted that she was more beautiful than the Nereids , the angry sea god Poseidon sent the monster keto ; Andromeda was to be sacrificed to him. However, the daughter was saved at the last moment by Perseus , who took her with him.
Cepheus remained without sons, which is why his grandson Perses , a son of Perseus and Andromeda, inherited the kingdom. Just like Perseus , Andromeda , Kassiopeia and Keto , Cepheus was finally transferred to heaven by Athena as the constellation Cepheus .
The moon crater Cepheus was later named after him.
