Karl Tümpel

Karl Tümpel (born August 10, 1855 in Gotha , † February 20, 1940 in Neustettin ) was a German high school teacher , classical philologist and historian . He researched and published on the history of the city of Neustettin in Pomerania .

Tümpel attended the Ernestinum grammar school in his hometown of Gotha. His father of the same name died there in 1885. He then studied ancient languages , German and history at the University of Göttingen , where he was a member of the Corps Verdensia . At the University of Leipzig , he was in April 1880 with a dissertation on Ares and Aphrodite to Dr. phil. PhD.

After graduating, he first worked as a trial teacher in Pyritz . Since July 1, 1882 he was a senior teacher at the Fürstin-Hedwig-Gymnasium in Neustettin . On July 2, 1900 he was given the character of professor . He retired in 1921 at the age of 66.

In Neustettin, Tümpel was active as a church elder in the Protestant parish and above all as a city ​​councilor . At times he was head of the city ​​council . He researched and published on the history of the city. Among other things, he wrote the town history of Neustettin in six centuries on behalf of the magistrate for its six hundredth anniversary in 1910 .
