Aşıq Qərib is an Azerbaijani romantic, fairytale-like epic about a traveling epic singer ( Aşıq ), which is also popular in the Caucasus , Central and Asia Minor .

The first written version was recorded by Mikhail Lermontov in 1837, who probably had the story told by Mirza Fet Ali in Tbilisi. In 1846, Lermontov's Russian version was published posthumously.

The plot was set to music in the operas Ashik-Gharib by Üzeyir Hacıbəyov and Schach-Senem (1923–1925) by Reinhold Moritzewitsch Glière . The ballet Aschik-Kerib (1939–1940) by Boris Wladimirowitsch Assafjew is also a setting of the epic.

Sergei Parajanov filmed the work in 1988 as Ashugi Quaribi (German: Kerib, the minstrel ).
