Kerstin Baumgarten

Kerstin Baumgarten is a German sports scientist and university lecturer .

Life

Baumgarten studied sports science from 1980 to 1984 at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK), followed by research studies at the DHfK, which she completed with her doctoral thesis in 1988 (title: "Investigations to ensure the stress tolerance of the spinal region with elements that result in hyperextension of the body go hand in hand as well as identification of training method measures to develop the special stabilization ability of the spine ”). From 1988 until the DHfK was dissolved, Baumgarten worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Gymnastics and Gymnastics at the DHfK. Among other things, it dealt with the subject of "Analysis of acrobatic jumps under the aspects of optimizing the technique and increasing the load tolerance".

From 1993 to 1997 she worked as a research assistant at the Magdeburg University of Applied Sciences as part of the model course "Health Promotion / Management". In 1997 she completed a research stay at San Diego State University in the US state of California . In 1998 she started teaching at the Department of Social and Health Services at Magdeburg-Stendal University. From 2011 to 2013, Baumgarten held a substitute professorship for health sciences at the same university (focus on theory and methods of health promotion) before becoming a full professor in this area in 2014. In 2015 she became the spokesperson for the Health Sciences Faculty Conference. In 2018 she was elected Vice-Rector for Research, Development and Transfer at the Magdeburg-Stendal University of Applied Sciences.

Baumgarten's main research interests include the health of the elderly, health sports in clubs and the health of students.
