Keserwan District
The district of Keserwan ( Arabic قضاء كسروان, DMG Qaḍāʾ Kisrawān ; French District de Kesrouan ) is an administrative district ( Qaḍā' ) in the Mount Lebanon Governorate in Lebanon .
geography
The district is located in the center of the country, bordered in the south by the Nahr el-Kelb , in the north by the Nahr Ibrahim , in the west by the Levant Sea and in the east by the Lebanon Mountains , which also delimit the district from the Bekaa governorate . The main town of the district is Jounieh , 17 km north of Beirut .
Names
The name "Keserwan" goes back to the Arabic كسرة / kisra meaning "small piece, crumb", or in kassara ( Arabic كسر) with the meaning "cut". Another etymology leads the name back to the Persian king Kesra (Anoucharouan,?).
