Boiler rupture
In tectonics, a boiler breach is a subsidence field created by faults (fractures).
In contrast to the depression of a trench , a boiler fracture is more or less circular.
Examples of such landforms are
- the Arnsdorf granite stock near Vierkirchen (Oberlausitz)
- the Kesselbruchweiher in the urban area of Frankfurt am Main
- the Balmholz quarry
The Nördlinger Ries was regarded as a boiler breach for a long time before it was discovered that it was an impact crater .
