The Kesselbruchweiher is a pond in the Hessian city of Frankfurt am Main . The still water with a water surface of 2.4  hectares lies on the boundary of the Sachsenhausen district in the Frankfurt city forest . The pond was artificially created in a disused gravel pit in the second half of the 1960s . The name of the pond is derived from the tectonic name Kesselbruch for a subsidence field created by faults .

location

The Kesselbruchweiher is located in the extreme south-east of Sachsenhausen and the eastern part of the city forest called Oberwald . The area belongs to the southern section of the Frankfurt green belt . A few meters to the northwest is the Försterwiesenweiher pond, which was created in 1958 . A footpath with benches leads around the Kesselbruchweiher; the pond is not intended to be used for swimming or water sports. There are two islands in the pond that serve as breeding grounds for the native birds.

Transport links

The Kesselbruchweiher can only be reached directly on foot or by bike via unpaved forest paths. The nearest public transport stop of the Frankfurt public transport company VGF is the Neu-Isenburg / city limit stop of line 14 of the Frankfurt tram, about one kilometer to the southwest . The closest car park for motorized private transport is located to the northeast at a distance of around 750 meters on the Grastränke, accessible via the Babenhäuser Landstrasse . A section of the Weilruh nature trail leads directly along the eastern bank of the pond ; This is there for a distance of about 200 meters congruent with the European long-distance hiking trail E1 .

A contrast to the natural experience of the pond and its surroundings is the fact that, depending on the wind direction, there is an entry or departure lane at Frankfurt am Main Airport in the immediate vicinity of the Kesselbruchweiher. The resulting aircraft noise can be perceived as a nuisance.
