Kessinger Publishing is an American publisher .

Publications

Kessinger publishes reprints of rare, out of print or copyright- free books . It was founded in Whitefish , Montana in 1988 . The dates of the first publication of the titles are usually before the year 1923 , so that it can be assumed that the books are copyright-free in the USA.

Today, Kessinger often uses titles scanned from Google Books and requests new ISBNs for the scanned books. The publisher also publishes print-on-demand titles. In 2009 the publisher offered over 190,000 titles.

Individual scholars accuse the publisher of Copyfraud , since books that are actually legitimate and permanent in the public domain are again given a copyright.
