Whitefish (German for: white fish ) is a town in Flathead County in Montana . Around 6,400 people live there on 11.5 km².
Whitefish was founded by fur traders in the late 19th century and sold to the Spokane – St. Paul / Minneapolis attached. Most of the residents initially worked in the railroad or in the timber industry . The nearby Whitefish Mountain Resort has been developed as a ski area since 1947 ; The tourism sector is therefore increasingly an important economic factor for the city. Against this background, the population has doubled in the last three decades. The Empire Builder stops at Whitefish Station in both directions every day .
