Kettelburg

The Kettelburg is a late medieval low castle near Herdringen from the period between the 14th and 16th centuries.

A line of the von Ketteler family emerged from the owners of Haus Hüsten . The Ketteler were a ministerial family of the Counts of Arnsberg .

The castle was first mentioned as being owned by Dietrich Ketteler in 1378. It lies in the corner of the mouth of a sieve in the tube . The castle is partially considered the ancestral seat of the Kettelers. Cord Ketteler died in 1501 without any descendants. The heiress was Elisabeth Ketteler, who married Johann von Hanxleden. The castle and estate came into the possession of the Hanxleden . The owners moved to Körtlinghausen , so the castle fell into disrepair from the beginning of the 16th century. A Wigand von Hanxleden took over the castle in 1543 and built a new castle castle at a slightly different location. Herdringen Castle later emerged from this .

The castle had an approximately oval floor plan. In 1979 the remains were examined. You can still see essentially the castle hill today.
