Chain milling machine as a hand machine

A chain milling machine (also known as a chain cutter or chain mortiser ) is a machine tool for machining wood . It is used to make mortises and pockets for lock cases by carpenters and joiners . Chain milling machines are available as stationary and hand machines. The chain milling machine creates a rectangular hole in the workpiece . In the case of blind holes , the rounding of the chain guide remains at the bottom.

Construction of the stationary machines

Stationary chain milling machines are divided into floor-standing and wall-mounted machines. The workpieces can be clamped on the machine body. An exchangeable guide rail with a circumferential milling chain is attached to the lowerable top slide. A spring pull pulls the device back after processing. To protect the operator, rods are attached on both sides of the milling chain, which have additional devices for chip breaking at the lower end. To create different holes, there are guide rails and milling chains in different widths.
