Kevin Asano

Kevin Asano (born April 20, 1963 in Hawaii ) is a former American judoka . He was second in the 1988 Olympics.

The 1.62 m tall Asano fought in the ultra-light weight class up to 60 kilograms. In 1983 he finished third at the US Open, in 1984 he received a bronze medal at the Pan American Championships. In 1985 and 1986 he was again third at the US Open. At the Pan American Games in 1987 he won the silver medal behind the Brazilian Sérgio Pessoa . In November 1987 he won the US Open. Two weeks later he lost to the Japanese Shinji Hosokawa in the quarterfinals of the World Championships in Essen . Asano fought his way to the bronze medal, defeating Sérgio Pessoa in the battle for bronze. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he defeated Shinji Hosokawa in the semifinals. In the final he lost to the South Korean Kim Jae-yup .

Kevin Asano is a graduate of San José State University . After his career as a competitive athlete, he worked in his own companies in the financial sector. He was President of the Judo Federation of Hawaii and later the United States Judo Federation .
