Markus Tymister

Markus Tymister (born February 25, 1965 in Aachen ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1984, the son of Hans Josef Tymister studied theology at the Sankt Ansgar School from 1984 to 1986 at the University of Münster and from 1986 to 1990 at the Gregoriana . He was ordained a priest on October 10, 1990. From 1990 to 1996 he graduated from the specialization in Liturgical Studies at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute (where he acquired in 1993 the licentiate and 1996 promotion to lit. Dr. with the theme of community and Head at baptism, wedding and funeral ). Since 1997 he has been involved in the pastoral liturgical training of candidates for the permanent diaconate and the presbytery of the dioceses of Aachen, Hamburg, Hildesheim, Osnabrück and Limburg and the candidates living in the Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe . From 1997 to 2000 he was teaching theology and liturgy at the Lübeck University of Music . As dean he headed the Deanery Wandsbek from May 2012 until the abolition of the Deanery in the Archdiocese of Hamburg in 2017. Since March 2000 he has been pastor of St. Joseph (Hamburg-Wandsbek) . Before that he was chaplain at St. Marien-Dom (Hamburg) and St. Erich (Hamburg-Rothenburgsort) .

He teaches as a professor at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute at the Pontificio Ateneo Sant'Anselmo and at the Theological Faculty of the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . He is particularly concerned with theology and history of the sacraments, the sacrament of reconciliation, the Eucharistic concelebration and Sunday services without priests. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Church Music Commission of the Archdiocese of Hamburg. Since May 2017 he has been chairman of the diocesan commission for liturgy, church music, church building and sacred art of the archdiocese. In September 2018, after being appointed Professor extraordinarius at the Pontificio Ateneo Sant'Anselmo , he took over the editing of the journal Ecclesia Orans . He is a member of the editorial offices of Ephemerides liturgicae and a member of the scientific advisory board of Teologiczne Studia Siedleckie .
