Diplomatic plates

The license plate of Vanuatu are black and have a white label. They usually show four digits. Rental cars show a white H on a green background in front of the digits. For buses and taxis, the letter B or T is in red on white at the beginning of the sign. Diplomatic license plates have a dark green background and orange text. The letters CD are followed by the abbreviation of the country of origin (e.g. CHN for China) and a consecutive number. Vanuatu is thus one of the few countries that does not encode the country of origin on diplomatic plates with numbers or letters.

Although the island nation is located in the South Pacific and can only be reached by plane or ship, vehicles from Vanuatu are still appearing in Europe . The reason for this is that various companies offer to allow foreign vehicles to be allowed in Vanuatu at low tax rates. A residence on the islands is not required. The license plates are sent to the holder by post. These license plates show two palm trees on the edges, four digits in between and the words Republic of Vanuatu on the lower edge .
