License plate (Kiribati)

South Tarawa license plate from the 1980s

The license plates of Kiribati show white letters on a black background. Since 2010 the label has usually consisted of two letters. The first letter indicates the Local Council , the second is usually written in yellow and indicates the vehicle class. This is followed by a maximum of four digits. Before that, three letters marked the Local Council , the vehicle class was not evident from the license plate. Since there is no uniform, prescribed design, the license plates are made from different materials, the letters are partly hand-painted, partly with the Kiribati coat of arms and come in various shapes and sizes.
