Khalid bin Salman (2018)

Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ( Arabic خالد بن سلمان آل سعود, DMG Ḫālid b. Salmān Āl Saʿūd ; also transcribed Khaled ; * 1988) is a son of the Saudi King Salman and a brother of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman . Khalid was trained as an Air Force pilot. In 2017 he replaced Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud as Saudi Arabian ambassador in Washington .

On October 9, 2018, he commented on the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi a week after he had visited the Saudi consulate in Istanbul . He described himself as a friend of Khashoggis, with whom he was in regular contact. All reports of a murder or kidnapping of Khashoggis are false and unfounded. On November 16, 2018, the Washington Post reported , citing the US secret service CIA , that Khalid bin Salman had called Khashoggi by telephone to visit the consulate in Istanbul and had assured him that there was no threat to him there. According to testimony to the CIA, this happened at the instigation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is also suspected of having ordered the killing of Khashoggi in the consulate.
