On October 15, 1982, about 50 people moved from the Islamic Center at 2551 Massachusetts Avenue to the Saudi Embassy at 2941 Massachusetts Ave NW in Washington, DC and protested on the embassy lawn .

Herbert Hoover's government recognized the government of Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud in 1931 . In 1933 the Standard Oil of California (SOCAL) founded the Arab American Oil Company (Aramco), which contributed significantly to the close ties between the respective governments. The representative of Fahd ibn Abd al-Aziz to George Bush , Bandar ibn Sultan , was often called Bandar Bush.
