Mission profile and structure

The 122-mm howitzer D-30 used

It is a simple and mobile artillery system designed for rapid intervention and response as part of Joint Tactical Fire Support . The Khalifa system is armed with a refurbished D-30 howitzer. This Soviet howitzer was manufactured in large numbers and sold to many countries. The worldwide spread of the cannon, including the ammunition, is an advantage for targeted exports .

A turntable with the 122 mm howitzer is mounted on the rear of the vehicle. In order to increase stability when shooting, there are hydraulically operated stabilizers at the rear, which are lowered when ready to fire. The steel side parts can also be opened hydraulically. They give the crew quick access to the ammunition stowed in the loading area. The maximum fire range is 17 km, direct aiming is also possible. The maximum rate of fire is eight rounds per minute. The vehicle has 45 rounds of ammunition on board. It also carries spare parts for the howitzer and tools. The Khalifa has a short reaction and implementation time. He can fire his first grenade in 1.5 minutes. So the Khalifa should be able to fire some projectiles and leave the firing position before the enemy can determine his position. The vehicle has the Karary IGZ01 - fire control system , which is also of MIC is produced. This artillery system has a crew of five, all of whom are housed in a newly developed armored cabin that is supposed to provide protection against small arms fire and artillery fragments.

vehicle

The Khalifa is based on the Russian 6 × 6 truck KamAZ-43118 with a modified chassis and armored cab . This truck is made for both civil and military operators. The vehicle is powered by a four-stroke V8 diesel engine with 300 hp. The vehicle is all-wheel drive and designed for driving in difficult terrain . Due to its low weight and limited dimensions, the SPG can be transported with most medium-sized cargo aircraft.
