Kharsawan ( Hindi खरसावाँ रियासत Kharasāvā̃ riyāsat ) was a princely state in British India in what is now the state of Jharkhand . It was one of the nine Chota Nagpur states under the Bengal presidency . Its capital was the place Kharsawan .

The principality of the Rathore dynasty was founded in 1650 by Kunwar Padam Singh, the second son of Raja Bikram Singh, founder of Seraikela . In 1657 Kharsawan was recognized as an independent state.

In 1892, Kharsawan had an area of 396 km² with about 31,000 inhabitants. On May 18, 1948, Kharsawan joined the Indian Union. Together with the neighboring princely state of Seraikela, Kharsawan came to Bihar . In 2000 the area became part of the newly formed state of Jharkhand .
