Khashayar Mostafavi ( Persian خشایار مصطفوی, * 1982 ) is an Iranian writer and film director .

Life

Khashayar Mostafavi was born in Iran in 1982 . In 2002 he began to study "theater studies with a focus on scenic writing" at the art faculty of Tehran University in Tehran. He continued his studies with a master's degree in "Theater and Directing" and finished it in 2010 at the Tarbiat Modares University in Tehran. Mostafavi had to leave Iran in 2013 after he came into the focus of the security authorities because of his book "The Birth of Iranian Drama". In addition to a few short films, the artist also made two long documentaries: “Our Cherry Orchard” and “Fight Me”. The film lasts 97 minutes and was shot with the digital camera by one person from 2012 to 2015. The director asks why the Iranians should be at war with other countries? Because of this question, the director of the film discussed with Iranians who represent different backgrounds and have different opinions. The talks make it clear that the Iranians are dissatisfied with their government and that they are of the opinion that they are defending themselves. Mostafavi, in his discussions with ordinary people, identifies three reasons for this garbage. It looks like the eight years of war between Iran and Iraq and the rule of an Islamist regime over the past 36 years had influenced and changed their view. In addition, the development of Islamist culture has made this society increasingly violent. “Fight Me” was published in 2015.

Khashayar Mostafavi has received several awards for his literary and artistic work in recent years. In 2017 he shot his feature film Dasein in Hamburg. The film shows integration from the perspective of a newcomer.

Mostafavi has lived in Germany since 2013 and works for the NDR .
