Lists on the subject |
The Khaybar KH2002 is an Iranian assault rifle in Bullpup design.
description
The weapon was designed in 2001 by the Iranian Defense Industries Organization (DIO). The Chinese Norinco CQ assault rifle (official name: CQ 5.56 ), which is a copy of the American M16A1 from Colt and is used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard , served as a model. The KH2002 is intended to replace the aging HK G3 (versions G3A5 and G3A6) as the standard assault rifle used by the Iranian armed forces .
There are different versions with different barrel lengths (780 mm, 730 mm, 680 mm) and aiming devices. Optionally, a bayonet and bipod can be attached to the weapon. The rifle uses the 5.56 × 45 mm NATO ammunition . The manufacturer describes the weapon as "high-precision", light, with low recoil and, thanks to its modular structure, easy to maintain .
The effective range of the weapon is 400–500 m. The muzzle velocity is 900–950 m / s.
Procurement freeze
In 2008, as part of a modernization of the armed forces, the Syrian Army tested the Khaybar 2002 alongside the Russian AK-74 M. For this purpose, the manufacturer of the Khaybar sent ten KH-2002 rifles together with some representatives to Syria. Except for two rifles, all other KH-2002 malfunctions during the tests. The Russian Ak-74M emerged as the winner from the tests.
After Uruguay also lost interest in the KH-2002, the program was abandoned in 2012. Reasons were the lack of demand abroad, the sanctions of the UN and the lack of interest of the Iranian armed forces. The production and further development of the rifle were stopped.
