Khruea

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Khruea (* in the 13th century; † 1326 in Chiang Mai ) was king of the northern Thai kingdom of Lan Na between 1319 and 1322 .

Khruea had been sent away by his father Mengrai (ruled 1259-1317) because he had molested the wife of his brother Chai Songkhram. Khruea returned in 1319, only to oust his nephew Saen Phu from the throne and drive him away. He turned to his father, the very Chai Songkhram who assigned one of his sons, Nam Thuam , with the removal of Khruea. In fact, Nam Thuam succeeded in overthrowing Khruea and put himself on the throne for two years (1322-1324) with his father's permission, where he then behaved so unloyalty that his father commissioned Prince ( Thao ) Ngua to replace Nam Thuam again. In any case, Khruea remained under house arrest and died in Chiang Mai in 1326.
