The Khyber Pools are a group of small lakes on Signy Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . They are located in the middle of the Chaiber Pass ( English Khyber Pass ).
The lakes were created in the 1980s by melting glaciers . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2004 based on the name of the pass, which is named after the Chaiber pass between Pakistan and Afghanistan .
