Kick Me is an American animated short film directed by Robert Swarthe in 1975. It was hand -animated directly on the individual frames of the film strip.

action

A colored pencil appears and paints a couple of thin legs on a frame of the filmstrip. The legs come to life, destroy the appearing credits and run away. They reappear on the screen and perform, among other things, a pointe dance to ballet music . Later they walk along a meadow and come to an apple tree. The apples fall down and the legs start to play with the apples: one apple that the legs throw in the air becomes three that are held in the air while juggling. The legs juggle the apples to a lake and all three apples are eaten by fish. The legs go for a swim in the lake and are soon chased by a shark, but are able to escape.

The legs now run over mountains and valleys into a tunnel, where they have to avoid approaching cars. A small metal ball hits the legs as they stand outside again. The legs roll the metal ball a bit, which however becomes independent, gets bigger and bigger and finally threatens to roll over the legs. They flee up and down stairs and finally fall into a sea, where they are soon enclosed in air bubbles with diving fins or swim with fish or are almost eaten by them. Soon the legs save themselves to the beach and finally find themselves in a single image and reach the limits of the image and finally jump from image to image - you can see part of the film strip - and finally from film strip to film strip.

The legs end up in a building and are chased by the bullet and a spider. When the spider seems to get hold of the legs, the picture is interrupted with the sign “One Moment Please”, which is finally kicked off the legs. The legs start dancing again.

Awards

Kick Me was nominated for an Oscar in the category " Best Animated Short Film " in 1976 , but could not prevail against Great .
